1972 Porsche 911S - Under Restoration

Australian delivered. Factory RHD. Sunroof. Coupe. Small-bumper. 1972. 911S. Light Yellow.

The phrase ‘tick-a-box’ is oft thrown about in the Australian air-cooled Porsche circles. It is used to describe a car that has a certain collection of desirable features that characterise a blue-chip investment in these automobiles. It is a checklist that often finishes after coupe (in the list above) however, of the regular road going 911’s, this particular example has potentially every characteristic to make it the quintessential ‘tick-a-box’ vehicle.

Arguably the most desirable of the 911 S’, 1972 posses the one-year-only oil filler flap in the rear right-hand quarter panel. An attempt to move sprung weight forward in the notoriously tail happy 911’s, this feature was done away with due to too many people mistaking it for a fuel filler flap, essentially ‘hand grenading’ the air-cooled engine.

This example is the top of the line (at the time) variant of the 911 you could buy in 1972, a 911S. Sporting it’s original, matching numbers 2.4L MFI engine behind it’s matching numbers 915 gearbox (the first year of the legendary transmission), this unmolested example has been very well looked after for its entire life.
